Two remarkable places. Two very different ways of bringing architecture and nature together.

Leave Kyoto behind for a private day in the Shiga countryside — where world-class architecture, art, landscape and contemporary Japanese creativity come together.

Two Places. Two Visions.

MIHO Museum

A museum hidden in the mountains

Designed by I. M. Pei, the architect behind the Louvre Pyramid, MIHO Museum is as much about the journey as the art. A quiet mountain road, a curving tunnel and a bridge lead to a museum emerging from the landscape — an experience inspired by the ancient story The Peach Blossom Spring.

Why go?

For one of Japan's most remarkable encounters between architecture, art and nature.

La Collina Omihachiman

When a sweet shop becomes a destination

La Collina is the flagship home of TANEYA, a Shiga confectionery company with more than 150 years of history. Its extraordinary grass-covered architecture, created with architect Terunobu Fujimori, brings together food, landscape, design and retail.

Why go?

To discover how a traditional Japanese business turned architecture and nature into a destination of its own.
